Zambian girl becomes 1st golfer to play in tri-angular tournament(Xinhua)Updated: 2007-01-31 10:10 LUSAKA - A 15-year-old Zambian girl has become the first female golfer to play in a tri-angular tournament in its 36-year history, Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation reported Tuesday. Melisa Nawa, who has also represented the country in a number of internaternal events, featured for the Chilanga Golf club in division-A category. She is reigning champion of the Kenya Open and also represented Zambia in the British Open last year where she finished among the top 10. The annual competition is hosted in a series of three venues of Chilanga, Chainama and Lusaka Golf clubs and attracted several veteran and young golfers. Melisa who teed-off well was leading until the 17th hole where she lost her golf-ball paving way for veterans Derick Carle and Harry Bwalya to lead. The first leg held at Lusaka Golf club saw the hosts win on 49 points followed by Chainama with 43 and Chilanga were last at 16 points. |
