200,000 items of official merchandise sold at Asian Games

About two hundred thousand Asian Games souvenirs have been sold, Doha Asian Games organizers said here on Sunday.

"We have sold more than 200,000 items of official merchandise. The most popular items are Orry toy, mugs of all types, caps, children's Orry, bowling sets, commemorative coins and rugby shirts," said Ahmed Abdulla Khulaifi, deputy Director General, Corporate Services of the Doha Asian Games organizing committee.

One big-sized stuff toy of the mascot Orry sells at QR150 (USD$ 42) while a small-sized, 65.

A cap will cost QR30 and a mug of Orry or Doha Asian Games logo is worth of around QR20.

On Sunday, Al Khulaifi said about 550,000 tickets had been sold eight days after the opening.

"We are selling 35,000 to 40,000 tickets a day and we are expecting a speeding-up because we are coming to the finals," said Abdulla Al Khulaifi.

Of all the sports, Al Khulaifi said several were especially popular among the spectators.

"The best sellers are basketball, and basketball final, bowling, equestrian fencing, beach volleyball and diving," Al Khulaifi said.

The DAGOC has made the sale of tickets for the Games quite feasible. Tickets can be bought according to the sport, venue or date at box offices of venues or authorized selling places.

The prices of tickets ranges from QR 5 to QR 20 for various sports. The ticket prices for opening and closing ceremonies are QR 500 and QR 150 respectively.
