Chaozhou

Located in east of Guangdong, the city of Chaozhou is a famous historical and cultural city in China and well-known to the world for its overseas Chinese culture. About 2.3 million Chaozhou people live in Hong Kong, Macao and elsewhere overseas.

Chaozhou is rich in land and water resources and a city strong in tourism. The city is capable of producing up to 144,800 kilowatts of hydroelectric power and has and 53,300 hectares of shallow sea beach-lands for development. More than 470 different kinds of fish live in the waters surrounding the city.

The city is home to many unique and distinctive features of Chaozhou culture, such as accents, cuisine, opera, music and Chaozhou kungfu tea. Craft arts, such as embroidery, wood engravings and pottery from Chaozhou are known across the globe.

Chaozhou embroidery derives from the school of the Yue embroidery, one of the four famous Chinese embroideries. Due to the exquisite craftsmanship, the wedding gowns made in Chaozhou are highly sought after around the world, with exports travelling to more than 20 countries and regions. Chaozhou is China's biggest wedding gown manufacturer.
