Performance Information

The Orquestra de la Comunitat Valenciana (OCV), leading orchestra at Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía, in Valencia, Spain, comprises?international musicians, personally selected by the musical director, Lorin Maazel, who has been leading the orchestra since it was established in 2006. In a short time, the OCV, led by Maazel, has been positioned among the most upwardly moving orchestras internationally, and has received much praise by public and critics alike as "one of the best orchestras of recent years".

The main task of the orchestra is to perform in the orchestra pit during the opera season at Palau de les Arts. Conducted by Lorin Maazel, the orchestra has polished its technique and has become a versatile group capable of performing complex scores of very differing styles, such as Don Giovanni, Madame Butterfly, Turandot, Carmen, Simon Boccanegra, Luisa Miller, Don Carlo, Parsifal, Cavalleria rusticana, La vida breve or La Traviata.

Maestro Zubin Mehta, as president of the annual Festival del Mediterrani, has also had close relations with the OCV since it was created, and has conducted the orchestra in operas (Fidelio, Turandot and Der Ring des Nibelungen) and concerts.

The two performances of Wagner's famous Ring consolidated the international prestige of the young but solid orchestra. To their flexibility in opera, their brilliant personality to tackle ambitious scripts of symphonic repertoires is also added, such as Symphonies 2 and 4 by Mahler, Requiem by Verdi, Symphonie Fantastique by Berlioz, Glagolitic Mass by Janá?ek, Eroica by Beethoven or The Rite of Spring by Stravinsky.

The presence of other great names in contemporary orchestra conducting such as Valery Gergiev or Gianandrea Noseda and their activity in the record market contributes to place the Orquestra de la Comunitat Valenciana among the most exemplary and dynamic symphonic projects of our time.
