The Banque Belge Pour L'etronger, a member of the Belgium General Bank system, was established in 1902 and headquartered in Brussels. Its Tianjin branch was opened in 1906 and specialized in deposits, foreign exchange, secured loan and issuing banknotes.

Designed by the Credit Foncier d' Extreme Orient and built in 1922, the building covers an area of some 2400 square meters and has a floor area of about 3000 square meters. In 1956, the Tianjin Branch of Banque Belge Pour L'etronger was closed down. The rooms are well-designed and beautifully decorated. Up to now, the wood floor and the flights are in good condition. The plain stone exterior facade exhibits a simple style of modernism.
