Liu Xiaodong is an ethnic Han Chinese born in Inner Mongolia. He graduated from the International Modern Design Department of the Inner Mongolia Normal University, majoring in advertising.

After graduation he worked at the 4A International Advertising Company. In 2000 he joined zol.com.cn and was appointed general manager in 2004.

He was appointed senior vice president of CNET China and general manager of the Consumer Group in October 2006.

As the senior vice president of CBS Interactive China and general manager of the Consumer Group, Liu has nearly 10 years working experience in internet media. He is responsible for six wholly-owned professional websites including: zol.com.cn, pchome.net, fengniao.com, xiyuit.com, ea3w.com and 3qit.com. He is also responsible for the business development of 80 union network stations with businesses involved in IT, communications, video media and other fields.
