The Chengdu Forestry and Gardening Bureau in the capital of Sichuan province has designated the city's Wenjiang district as the base for the development of seedlings of flowers and plants.

The area of Wenjiang's flowers and plants has risen from 20 hectares in 1978 to 10,000 hectares today, according to district chief Xie Chao.

Distributed in Wanchun, Hesheng and Shou'an towns, the district's flower and plant seedling bases are famous nationwide. In the countryside, there are countless flower and plant cultivators, he said.

As one of the four flower industrial bases in the country, Wenjiang hosted the Sixth China Flower Expo in 2005.
