Xi'an Jiaotong University selects freshmen

XI'AN: Xi'an Jiaotong University in Northwest China's Shaanxi Province has recently announced the preliminary results of its self-selection of freshmen from high school graduates.

It is one of the seven top-notch universities in the country to have made the announcements.

The other six are Shanghai Jiaotong University, Renmin University of China, China University of Science and Technology, Nanjing University, Zhejiang University and Tsinghua University.

Last year, Shanghai Jiaotong University, China University of Science and Technology, Nanjing University and Tsinghua University started enrolling students from high school graduates.

As Zhejiang University and the Renmin University of China have joined in the self-selection, excellent high school graduates have more choices in applying,.

As a result, an increasing number of candidates have applied this year.

According to the Ministry of Education, the number of students passing the preliminary self-selection process has risen by 40 percent over last year.

Of the candidates applying for Xi'an Jiaotong University, quite a number of them have also passed the preliminary self-selection process of another university.

If they can meet the requirements of two universities, they can choose one of their own accord to attend, according to officials in the admissions office of Xi'an Jiaotong University.

Students who have passed the preliminary self-selection process of the seven universities will sit for an academic aptitude test on February 19, they said.
