City well prepared for 5th National Special Olympics

FUZHOU - The city is well prepared for an innovative and excellent pageant, said Wang Xiuli, executive vice president of the organizing committee, during the third liaison meeting of the 5th National Special Olympics to be held in Fuzhou inon Sept 19, 2010.

"Since successfully bid for the Games, thousands of workers have made efforts in building Disabled Athletes Sports Administration Center and Fujian Sports Center, advancing the construction work with great passion." She said.

Wang described this Special Sports Meeting as of largest scale ever seen, therefore more people and more complication will show up. She called that the host city, organizers and contestants should work together whole-heartedly to achieve innovative and outstanding performance.

The Disabled Athletes Sports Administration Center that built in 2008 covered an area of 73,000 square meters and the building area is 31,000 square meters. It has a total investment of 250 million yuan, the first of its kind with comprehensive service facilities for disabled athletes.

Currently, some important parts such as ramp way, disadvantage-friendly track, toilets, lifts ad special stands are under reconstruction.

The work of the opening ceremony stage in the stadium is also under way. Surrounding environment projects like: landscape, peripheral paved roads and gates are coming to an end.

The Torch Relay activity under a theme of "deliver harmony, love between cross-straits" was successively carried out along the cities of Fujian.

Some 11,300 attendants including athletes, coaches, officials, honored guests, journalists and volunteers will take part in the games. Among them, 3000 volunteers will provide protection, medical aid and cleaning work etc. Lots of young people actively joined the group after received professional training courses for them.
