Guangzhou - A tour of the west Pearl River bank brings consular officials and trade representatives in Guangdong province to the threshold of understanding a new growth point in the province.

The group of 28 members from 15 countries visited three cities along the west bank of the Pearl River, the third largest river draining the majority into Guangdong and Guangxi provinces.

The three cities are Jiangmen, Zhuhai, and Zhongshan, which are said to be "the new growth point" of Guangdong province's economic development, according to Wan Qingliang, the vice governor of Guangdong province.

"Cities in Guangdong province are improving their own strength in terms of economy, like energy-saving products and new clean-power industry," Wan said. "The tour provides a mirror and communication channel to the two sides."

The consular tour took place June 23 to June 25. It was the last leg of the consular tour organized by the Foreign Affairs of Guangdong People's Government.

The previous tour package began in August 2008, including East Pearl River Bank Tour, Eastern Guangdong Tour, Northern Guangdong Tour, and Western Guangdong Tour.

Thirty-seven countries have now set up their consulates in Guangdong province.
