Guangxi has 290 billionaires among its 48,890,000 population and 4,200 people with over 10 million yuan, according to a report drafted by Rupert Hoogewerf, who was invited to a wealth forum held recently in Liuzhou, Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region.

“The number of Guangxi’s rich people is increasing quickly,” said Hoogewerf, better known in China by his Chinese name Hurun.

Hurun Report, a monthly magazine founded by Hurun, is renowned for its “China Rich List”, a ranking of the wealthiest individuals in China.

He Jingyun, president of Guangxi Beisheng Group, tops the list with a fortune of 1.8 billion yuan. The Group's principal activities are production and distribution of Chinese and western medicine, blood and biological pharmaceutical products.

The deadline of the report was April, so the list may has changed because of the volatile stock market, according to Hurun.

Hurun said Zou Jieming, the president of Guilin Sanjin Pharmaceutical Co, may have since become the richest person in Guangxi. After Sanjin, China's biggest producer of herbal lozenges, made its strong debut on the Shenzhen exchange in July, Zou’s assets increased significantly, reaching over 3 billion yuan.

Guangxi has great development potential, according to Hurun. Before 2006, few Guangxi residents were included in the Hurun China Rich List but in the last few years, more and more Guangxi multimillionaires have ranked among China’s richest people.
