Rebuild consumer confidence in dairy industry

chinadaily.com.cn | Updated: 2013-07-05 20:44

Consumer rights are important, said an article in 21st Century Business Herald (excerpts below).

The anti-monopoly department of the National Development and Reform Commission said some foreign-brand infant and baby formulas were violating anti-monopoly law.

Many Chinese consumers lost confidence in the domestic dairy industry after a series of food safety scares. Some foreign companies have used this opportunity to push up their prices.

It is necessary for the government to regulate the market and protect consumer interests.

It is a process of rebuilding consumer confidence by punishing anti-monopoly law breakers and reforming the dairy industry.

The authority should also allow the public to play a bigger role especially in a supervisory capacity.

Irresponsible companies or inefficient supervision must not be allowed.
