The wealthiest man in Liuling of Shanxi province has just spent 70 million yuan ($11m) on his daughter's wedding. Though it's the man's right to spend his own money how he wants, the rich can't be blind to poor people's feelings, says an article on xinhuanet.com. Excerpts:

Xing Libin, the board chairman of Liansheng Group, a coal company in Liulin county of Shanxi province, paid an astronomical sum for his daughter's wedding, which was held in the tourist spot of Sanya in Hainan province and included a grand gala by stars and celebrities.

People couldn't believe their eyes at the presence of so many stars, such as Leehom Wang and Jay Chou, almost all of whom are well-known to the public and heavyweights in the Chinese entertainment world. Of course every one knows it's the huge money that helped to make the occasion so spectacular and attract so many superstars.

To be frank, it's a purely private matter how anyone chooses to spend his money. In this instance, the rich and superstars made a win-win deal for face and money. In addition, not every rich man, especially those who make their money illegally will have the confidence to publicly expose their wealth in such a manner. But on the other hand, lavish displays of wealth in recent years have just raised increasingly negative mood in our society with the problem of widening income gap still bites. As for those stars, they are also public figures with social influence. While their commercial rights should be protected and respected, they are also supposed to bear certain social responsibilities and be aware of the possible influences and consequences of the events they are involved in.
