Nowadays it's always difficult to find a parking space in many big cities. The city managers should make more efforts to solve this problem, says an article in Yangcheng Evening News. Excerpt:

Almost all car drivers in big cities will have encountered the annoyance of having difficulty in finding a parking space.

It was reported that a man in Guangzhou drove his wife and his ill son to a hospital. His wife and son got out of the car and went to see a doctor, but even after his son had finished his treatment, the father still couldn't find parking place.

Some people argue that the price of land is too high in cities like Guangzhou for it to be used for parking lots, therefore we should focus on the development of public transport and encourage residents to use it more. This is certainly a reasonable suggestion.

But as our society has stepped into the "automobile age", parking is an unavoidable issue that we will eventually have to face.

And it's also residents' legal right to own private cars, thus the authorities have to meet the demand for roads and parking spaces.

The authorities should pay more attention in city planning to the support facilities of the buildings. And the authorities should learn from cities such as Beijing, which open the parking lots of government organizations and institutions to the public.
