Comment on "Debate: Marriage Law" (China Daily, Aug 22)

The settlement of a property dispute during a divorce case should depend on which party paid the down payment for the house and what percentage of the money was paid by the other party subsequently. To be fair to both sides, the judgment should be based on this fact alone, and the disadvantaged side could be either the husband or the wife.

In such a case, it cannot be said that the judicial interpretation of the Marriage Law is partial to men.

There is nothing wrong if the spouse to be with more money wants to sign a prenuptial agreement to avoid possible property disputes when conjugal relations sour.

People have the right to protect their and their parents' interests in case of disputes, and it is important that people think clearly and consider all the possibilities that could happen. In this way, people can marry for love, as well as avoid disputes in the future.
