Parents are worried that easy accessibility of Internet could turn their children into addicts at an early age. But it is unfair to demonize the Net, because its proper use will help kids immensely and prepare them for the information age, says an article on southcn.com. Excerpts:
Many parents are keeping their children away from the Internet, even though they enjoy every minute of their online surfing.
Adults are demonizing the Net because of their ignorance and limited understanding of the medium.
And there is little connection between kids using the Net and their poor exam scores.
Only some of the children who use the Net are addicts, and many parents don't know how to guide their children to make good use of online resources.
Hence, they shouldn't blame the Net for creating all the problems for youngsters while being blind to its important role in modern life.
Children are an important part of the information age.
Primary school teachers need to reconsider their role and help children make the Net an important supplement of their daily life.
Parents would be acting foolishly if they keep their kids away from the Net and make them unfit to use information technology purposefully.
They should be helping their wards probe into the magic realm of cyberspace and open news vistas for them.
