Brick kiln observers

Comment on Liu Shinan's column "Brick kilns: Where were authorities?" (China Daily, June 20)

The crackdown on such people will be harsh. But what about our character of sitting back and watching without saying anything?

We are all afraid to speak up. "The nail that sticks up will be hammered down." We have been taught that from infancy, have we not?

Perhaps what we are lacking is early childhood training on care for others.

Mental health

Comment on "Man confesses to thallium poisoning" (China Daily, June 21)

We should think more about this event. It's not only about a young man behaving badly. There are many more students like him who have psychological problems.

How should we make our children grow up mentally and physically well?
