A terminal control system for the safety of the drinking water will be applied to the drinking water project at the Olympic Village, according to an agreement reached by related departments.

Developed by the RCEES, the system builds a three-level safety network for water supply and has removable and fixed integrated drinking water decontamination and supply equipment available.

Earlier, the National Key Technology R&D Program established a specific project to ensure the safety of the drinking water and the supply of quality water for Olympic facilities during the 2008 Olympics. According to the Minister of Technology, the Research Center for Eco-Environmental Sciences (RCEES) took on the project with the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) providing necessary support.

Through technical renovation and system integration, RCEES has applied for nine patents. It has made breakthroughs in Arsenic, fluoride and nitrate from water, and has also independently developed a variety of technologies, including catalytic oxidation technology and reactors for micro organic pollutant, trace element preservation and steady-state water quality for pipe network systems, and water safety assessment and management.
