Volunteer training is underway at the Beijing Sport University where some 3,600 students, 48 percent of the total, have registered as volunteers for the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games.

The applicants are requested to attend eight two-hour lectures on the Olympic Games and conduct practices highlighting culture spreading, good manners, being honored and trustworthy, conscious in environmental protection and helping others. During the recent May Day holiday, the students went to the construction sites of the Olympic venues, where they gave art performances to migrant workers.

Teachers and youth league guides in the university have taken meticulous care in the training of the students. The clinic and Red Cross of the campus have also passed on the first-aid knowledge and skills.

One of the largest sport education institutions in China, the university plans to organize volunteers offering service in the areas of sport events, media operation, VIP escort, translation, sports display, award-giving ceremonies, emergency medical help and doping test, an official said recently.

The Beijing Olympic Games scheduled for August 8-24, 2008 will need about 70,000 Games-time volunteers and the Paralympic Games from September 6-17 will need another 30,000. Their recruitment is underway.
