"We are confident" that the "soft" environment of the Beijing Olympic Games will meet the needs of the Olympic Games, President of the Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad Liu Qi said in a recent interview.

Liu, also secretary of the Beijing Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China, made the remarks while attending the fifth session of the tenth National People's Congress Tuesday afternoon.

BOCOG and the Chinese government attach great importance to the safety of the food supply for the Games and have set up a special coordination group for that purpose, Liu said. Just how good the food safety system is will be seen during the "Good Luck Beijing" series events, which will be inaugurated in the second half of the year, he said.

After the Games are over, the system will be used to improve the food safety of China's capital. Beijing's capacity to stage large sporting events, city operations and services, and working standards will also benefit from the Games and be part of the city's Olympic legacy. Meanwhile, one hopes the preparation of the Games will bring a large number of young talents to the fore.
