Selection of top ten news stories on Beijing 2008 Olympic Games

From today to December 28, the official website of the BEIJING 2008 Olympic Games will stage a campaign to select Top Ten News Stories (2006) on the Beijing Olympic Games.

During this period of time, participants can pick top stories from a short-list of 22 stories at the official website of the BEIJING 2008 Olympic Games (www.beijing2008.com), www.xinhuanet.com, and www.people.com.cn.

The year 2006, a key year for the preparatory work of the Beijing Olympic Games, has seen remarkable achievements.

The creation team for the opening and closing ceremonies of the Beijing Olympic Games was officially formed, Fu Niu Lele, the official mascot of the Beijing Paralympic Games was unveiled; the ticket prices of the Beijing Olympic Games sports sessions were made public, significant progress was made in the construction of Olympic venues such as "Bird's Nest" and "Water Cube,"...In a word, numerous news events of great significance took place in the various aspects of the Olympic preparation.

The selection campaign aims to showcase the major achievements of the preparatory work and the enormous changes in Beijing.

The 22 candidate stories are published in Chinese, English and French by the official website of the BEIJING 2008 Olympic Games. Internet users can vote on- line for Top Ten stories. The participants can have a chance to win Olympic souvenirs from the campaign sponsors.

The final top ten stories will be examined and decided by a group of experts on the basis of on-line voting and the results will be announced on December 28.

The campaign is supervised by the Internet Affairs Bureau under the Information Office of the State Council and the Media and Communications Department of the Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad, and sponsored by the official website of the BEIJING 2008 Olympic Games, www.xinhuanet.com, and www.people.com.cn.
