Briefing held in HK on Olympic preparation

As segment of the tenth Beijing-Hong Kong Economic Cooperation Symposium, a briefing on the preparatory work for the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games was held in Hong Kong on Wednesday.

Patrick Ho, secretary for the Home Affairs of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) and executive vice president of the Olympic Equestrian Committee, told the audience that the 2008 Olympics is a matter of national importance, and all residents of Hong Kong feel honored to host the Olympic equestrian events.

The SAR government is to embark on a two-year publicity program featuring a series of Olympic-themed cultural and educational activities to boost residents' awareness of the equestrian sport, the Olympic Games and the benefits which the equestrian events can bring along

Wang Wei, executive vice president and secretary-general of the Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad (BOCOG) updated on the achievements of the preparatory work.

He believed that the equestrian events will surely be a success under the leadership of the central government and with the joint efforts of the Hong Kong government, the Equestrian Committee, the Equestrian Events Company and the compatriots of Hong Kong, given the fact that Hong Kong has a large number of experienced and professional talents in the areas of equestrian sport organization and equestrian services.

Attendees also included Timothy Fok, president of the Hong Kong Olympic Committee, and Lam Woon-kwong, chief executive officer of the Equestrian Events Company.

The briefing was held at Hong Kong Exhibition and Convention Center where an area of 1,500 square meters was set for the Olympic exhibition, covering the Olympic preparatory progress and Olympic-licensed products.

Visitors are seen acquiring information concerning Olympic related laws and regulations, marketing, cultural activities, volunteer application, ticketing, as well as equestrian events. They can also get access to Olympic publications and watch Olympic promotional films.
