Pu'er is located at the center of the Greater Mekong Subregion. "The city connects three countries, and the river runs through five neighborhood regions." There are two national Class I ports, one national Class II port, and 17 external land channels in Pu'er. Its foreign economic and trade activities have already expanded to 48 countries and regions in the world. There are abundant resources including land, mineral, forest, biological, and water energy ones. Its reserves of iron, gold, copper, lead, zinc, and sylvite rank first in the province. Its tea, coffee, and dendrobe rank first in the province and even in the country in terms of planting area, output, and output value. Its areas of forest lands and hot zones also rank first in the province. Pu'er is a key forest zone and a forest product industry base in Yunnan Province. With abundant water energy resources, Pu'er is a key energy base in the national drives to "transmit electricity from the west to the east" and "to transmit electricity to regions out of Yunnan Province."
