Lugu Lake is famous for its scenery and folk customs. It is inhabited by many ethnic groups, such as the Mosuo, Pumi and Tibetan. Different ethnic groups have different traditional foods and those different foods make Lugu Lake a paradise for food lovers.
The most famous traditional food of Lugu Lake is preserved pork, which is also called lute shaped pork. In the winter, the local Mosuo people preserve the pork with pepper and salt. The perfectly preserved pork will not go bad for several years.
Another Mosuo style food is pickled pear. It is made from pear, salt, garlic and pepper.
Roasted dry fish is made from a local fish called Bayu. Bayu is a specialty of Lugu Lake. The roasted dry fish tastes crispy, and it's a good choice to go with wine.
When it comes to wine, Sulima wine has to be mentioned. It is a traditional homemade wine of the Mosuo and Pumi people. Sulima wine is yellow and contains low alcohol content. Mosuo and Pumi people like to host their guests with Sulima wine since it can help to increase appetite.
Another traditional wine of Lugu Lake is Guangdang wine. It is made of corn, highland barley and millet. Locals boil it to 30 C before drinking to improve the taste. Compared with Sulima wine, Guangdang wine has a stronger delayed effect.
