The Municipal Elderly Care Service Association was established on July 28 in the city of Urumqi, Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region. The non-profit community organization hosts science, education, health and social activities for local elderly residents.
According to the association’s director, organizations that provide high-quality services for elders are vital to the city’s aging population .
To date, the number of the city residents aged over 60 has surpassed 330,000, accounting for 13.28 percent of the whole population. It is estimated that the number will exceed 420,000 by the end of 2015, more than 15 percent of the population overall.
