The Urumqi State High-tech Industrial Development Zone is home to 80 percent of the all biomedicine enterprises in the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region. The zone has set up an industrial chain integrating the growing, research and development, production and processing, and marketing of medicine.

A high-tech business incubator for biomedicine industries has been built in the zone’s North Industrial Area at a cost of 510 million yuan ($78.25 million). Well-known enterprises such as Tefeng Pharmaceutical and Deyuan Bioengineering Co Ltd can be found in the zone, along with Jiangyu Nutrition Academy. The academy aims to improve the region’s biomedicine industry by developing the folk medicine used by ethnic groups.
