The Qingdao Port Group, China Railway Container Transport Urumqi Company and Xinjiang Unitas Capital Company will jointly launch an international inland port project in Sangezhuang Village, Urumqi city, capital of Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region. The port will serve as a low-cost, high-efficiency platform for public logistics.

The Second Central Xinjiang Work Forum held this May illustrated the major role modern logistic services play in Xinjiang’s development as a strategic hub of the Silk Road Economic Zone.

Xu Bin, the deputy secretary of the Xinjiang People’s Government, also said the inland port project will accelerate Xinjiang’s construction of a Silk Road transportation hub, trade and logistics center.

From July to October, Qingdao Port Company will create the inland port and Sangezhuang Village’s management systems. Then from October through 2015, the Xinjiang International Inland Port will link with ports in Xi’an, Zhengzhou, Lanzhou and Yinchuan. From 2016 to 2017, the port will partner with international logistics providers to build the China-Europe Trade Goods Distribution Center. By the end of 2018, Xinjiang is expected to develop an inland port-specific logistics business consisting of warehousing, trade and finance.

Cheng Xinnong, manager of the Qingdao Port Company, said that in the future, the Xinjiang International Inland Port will become the center of China’s international inland port cluster.
