Swim competition for 13th Xinjiang Sports Games ends

The three-day swimming competition of the 13th Xinjiang Sports Games concluded on June 11 in Karamay.


The competition included 28 contests with 28 gold medals. Urumqi Petrochemical Co. team won nine gold, 10 silver and five bronze medals, which put the swimming team well ahead of its competitors.


The hosting Karamay Oil Field Co. team got three gold medals, nine silvers and nine bronzes. Yan He, a member of the team ,won two medals. The gold medal she got in the women’s 400-meter freestyle, was also the first one for Karamay Oil Field team.


Yan was astonished when she learned about the significance of her gold medal, “I didn’t know that the medal made history, I just strived for the match, and didn’t think anything else.”


Su Weiai, another member of the team, won a gold medal in the men’s 400-meter freestyle.


As for the other two teams, the Railway team got seven gold, five silver and five bronze medals. The 8th Steel Co. team got nine gold, four silver and seven bronze medals.


Wang Dongfeng, leader of the Xinjiang Oil Field Co. swimming team, said it was the fourth time they took part in the Xinjiang Sports Games, and they didn’t get any gold medals in the previous three games. The athletes were older and they didn’t meet for training.
