The food and drug administration in Huiyuan township, a tourist attraction in the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, conducted the supervision and inspection of 22 local restaurants on May 8.

The activity was set up to maintain and improve food safety standards in the local catering sector, according to the authority.

The administration gave out food safety responsibility agreements to restaurants, stipulating that the restaurant owners must abide by national laws and regulations, including food safety law, and try to maintain the cleanness of eating environments. Adequate training and regular physical examination should be provided to restaurant employees, according to the association. All restaurants should be in accordance with regulations when making food and ensure that tableware is cleaned and disinfected regularly.

According to requirements, price lists should be noticeable in the restaurants and food should be sold at the marketed price. Restaurants are expected to allow members of the public to act as watchdogs and flag up discrepancies or problems in prices.

Huiyuan town will make billboards marked with telephone numbers of local departments such as the food and drug administrations, industry and commerce bureau and tourist center. Government departments and public institutions are available to deal with customer complaints and protect the rights of consumers.
