The local government of Huocheng county in the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region plans to spend 15.50 million yuan ($2.46 million) on poverty alleviation programs in 2015.

The projects are aimed at helping lift 3,328 out of poverty and train 1,040 farmers and herdsmen.

The government will allocate 5.5 million yuan to five villages to support a number of projects such as wool carpet processing development. The fund will be drawn primarily Huocheng county and Yili Kazak autonomous prefecture's financial budget; relevant villages are required to raise 500,000 yuan.

Around 200 government-subsidized housing units will be completed this year and a water conservancy project fund will help 874 families gain access to tap water.

Huocheng will also spend 10 million yuan to implement an anti-poverty project for counties along border to accelerate the construction of border residents' housing and material supply stations.

The county is expected to lift its residents out of poverty by integrating resources and funds with departments of science and technology, agriculture and water conservancy, allowing locals to benefit from the development of those industries.
