Calligraphy work by 80-year-old Zhou Jiaocheng.
Retired officials took part in a series of activities to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Yili Kazakh Autonomous Prefecture in Huocheng, Xinjiang Autonomous Region.

Calligraphy and painting contests proved most popular as pacticing with a writing brush is part of daily life. Zhou Jiaocheng, an 80-year-old retired teacher, said calligraphy enriched his retirement, and his work was exhibited during the celebration.

As time passes Zhou's hands shake increasingly making it hard to control his movements but he selected two of his favorite pieces of work for the contest.
