Winter tourism festival lights up Shenbei New Zone

A winter tourism festival integrating a lantern show and snow sculpture sightseeing kicked off in Qixing Park in Shenbei New Zone of Shenyang on Dec 29, according to the organizers.

This event, as part of the Shenyang International Culture and Tourism Festival, has Dazzling Shengjing and Happy Shenbei as its theme.

It will last about two months and run until Feb 23.

It is being sponsored by the government of Shenyang and co-organized by the Shenyang Culture, Tourism, Radio and Television Bureau and the government of Shenbei.

Organizers said it aims to enrich people's lives and promote the development of winter tourism in Shenyang.

The festival features the display of 40 groups of large lanterns illuminated by colorful lights and 20 groups of large-scale snow sculptures, with free admission to the public.

In addition to lantern and snow sightseeing, a series of other activities is available for people seeking winter fun in the extreme cold.

Among them is a flying race in the Guaipo scenic area, a light show, a public winter sports event, the Qianyuda ice and snow carnival and the Beitang hot springs festival.
