Tiexi district in Shenyang, Northeast China’s Liaoning province launched a campaign to promote garbage sorting in 460 residential communities without property management on July 20.

At the launching ceremony, the district’s urban management and law enforcement bureau called on the residents to become pioneers, promoters and supervisors of garbage sorting.

More than 100 people signed their names to respond to the call. Volunteers explained the detailed instruction of sorting waste.

In addition, the organizers also designed parent-child games to draw more participation in the campaign at the event.

According to the organizers, there are more than 288,400 households in the 460 communities and they generate about 692 tons of waste every day, accounting for 77 percent of the district.

Therefore, these communities became the main battlefield for the promotion of waste sorting, the organizers said, adding that the selection and statistics of pilot areas, demonstration areas and qualified areas of waste sorting have been completed.
