Migrant workers to participate in housing fund

Shandong province is exploring ways to incorporate migrant workers into the housing fund system and lower the standards of application for affordable housing, according to a meeting held by provincial deputies to the National People's Congress, Dazhong Daily reported on Wednesday.

The move shows the province's goodwill to extend benefits to migrant workers. The housing fund system has played a significant role in helping urban residents purchase homes.

But there are still several problems that should be considered when authorities design the housing fund system for migrant workers. For example, most migrant workers are uncertain about their future employment and income.

Furthermore, Shandong province will continue to speed up the construction of low-income housing projects and try to allow enterprises to build houses as part of a city's affordable housing.
