The opening ceremony for the 2018 China (Taiyuan) International Energy Industry Expo (CIEI EXPO) was held in Taiyuan, Shanxi province, on Sept 16.

The ceremony was attended by a large number of officials, executives and experts from both China and abroad, including Ji Bingxuan, vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, Luo Huining, Party secretary of Shanxi Provincial Committee, and Lou Yangsheng, governor of Shanxi province.

CIEC EXPO is approved by the State Council and co-hosted by Shanxi provincial government, the Ministry of Commerce and the Ministry of Science and Technology. Since 2007, the expo has been held six times and is of great importance for the country's energy industry reforms.

With a focus on low-carbon emissions, smart energy and innovation, this year’s expo is showcasing the industry's latest technological achievements, providing a platform for global energy firms to strengthen ties.

The expo, which covers an area of 36,000 square meters, is divided into six themed areas with the smart energy exhibition serving as its main attraction. The area mainly highlights the integration between the energy industry and information technology.

A total of 289 exhibitors from over 30 countries and regions are attending the event; among which, 33 are Fortune 500 firms and 18 are national State-owned companies, along with 21 research institutes. Shanxi Jincheng Anthracite Mining Group Co, Luan Group and MMD Group are also being represented at the event.
