Jiangzhou drum music, a national intangible cultural heritage originating in Xinjiang county, Shanxi province, made its Bangladeshi debut at the National Theatre Hall in Dhaka, capital of Bangladesh on Feb 1.

Xinjiang County, which was previously called Jiangzhou in ancient times, has been a famous drumming region since the early Tang Dynasty (618-907). Jiangzhou drum music featuring various melodies then became popular in the Ming (1368-1644) and Qing (1644-1911) dynasties.

The Jiangzhou drum music show, sponsored by the Embassy of China in Bangladesh, attracted hundreds of audience members, including government officials of Bangladesh and ambassadors to the country.

China and Bangladesh have also signed a series of partnership agreements including on cultural collaboration. The show was part of efforts to collaborate in this sphere, according to Asaduzzaman Noor, minister at the Bangladeshi Ministry of Cultural Affairs.

The sponsor also demonstrated other forms of intangible cultural heritage such as Jiangzhou paper cutting, and New Year painting on pieces of wood, before the Jiangzhou drum music show.
