Shanxi province, which sits on the east of Loess Plateau and in the middle reaches of the Yellow River, has many unique villages –– thanks to the special geographical and hydrological conditions.
In recent years, the governments of cities in Shanxi have been exploring ways to protect these mountain villages by developing rural tourism and promoting local culture.
