A special tourist train named Yellow River returned to Taiyuan in North China's Shanxi province on Aug 20, marking the successful end of its 11-day journey along the Silk Road.

The activity, which involved 732 passengers, was initiated by a local TV station in Shanxi province, aiming to help tourists better understand the Belt and Road Initiative and savor the views along the Silk Road.

The routes of the train were specially designed by Taiyuan Railways Bureau and other railways bureaus along the Silk Road. The tourists traveled across five areas including Ningxia Hui, Inner Mongolia and Xinjiang Uygur autonomous regions, and Gansu and Qinghai provinces.

The organizers of the activity also hosted several special cultural activities for the tourists onboard the train such as a photography competition, chess competition and singing competition.

Various performers and a local art troupe from Xinjiang were also invited to travel with the tourists and perform.

The organizers arranged three live broadcasts during the trip in which passengers were able to interact with the viewers and share what they witnessed during the journey. The three live broadcasts attracted more than 3 million viewers with 20,000 comments posted on the internet.

Donations were organized to help build a library in a poor region the train traveled through during the journey. Children along the routes were also offered the chance to join the tourists for a celebration hosted by the organizers of the activity.
