The Window of Shanxi Agriculture, an agricultural theme park, opened in Jinyuan district in Taiyuan on July 6, with the aim of developing into a one-stop park for visitors' needs.

A Shanxi farm produce and specialty exhibition week was launched at the opening of the park, which attracted more than 160 manufacturers, dealers and specialty businesses, folk handicrafts and coarse cereals from 11 cities across Shanxi.

The Window of Shanxi Agriculture is a key project to be developed by Jinyuan district. At present, 186 companies have settled in the park, selling some 2,000 different kinds of products which have helped local farmers increase their incomes and find new employment.

"The majority of people engaged in planting are elderly as many young people have moved away to work and sales channels are limited," said Ji Baoping, a resident of Jijiagang village which is officially below the poverty line.

With the booth offered by the agricultural theme park for free, Ji Baoping now sells farm specialties produced by local villagers at the park.

"The local government established such a good platform for us that we are no longer worried about sales as long as the products are high-quality," he added.

The Window of Shanxi Agriculture has so far developed partnerships with 236 travel agencies, receiving some 5,000 visitors and generating revenue of 200,000 yuan ($29,402) per day. Currently, the park's second-phase project which covers 2.67 hectares and consists of a hotel and performance base is under construction.

Once construction is complete, the park will be able to better serve visitors’ travel needs and create jobs for some 1,000 local residents.
