A new electronic travel permit will be introduced for Taiyuan residents who travel to Taiwan, according to the city's public security bureau.

Starting from April 24, Taiyuan will accept applications for an e-pass to Taiwan, and will stop issuing the current booklet-like Taiwan Travel Permit.

The e-pass is the same size as an ID card, with anti-counterfeit technologies that meet international standards.

The validity of the e-pass will be extended to 10 years for adults, and to five years for people under 16.

People who apply for the e-pass for Taiwan will have to leave their fingerprints.

"The current booklet-like Taiwan Travel Permit is still valid," said Yu Jiebo, an official from Taiyuan public security bureau. "People can use the old permit, or apply for the new one as they wish."
