Shanxi man goes from selling coal to books

Wang Yuqi arranges books at his Xiyue Bookshop in Jincheng, Shanxi province, Jan 11. The 33-year-old man worked in the coal trade at Shanxi Jincheng Anthracite Mining Group for 10 years. In 2015, Wang decided to resign and pursue his dream – owning a bookstore, as the company planned to reduce staff members due to overcapacity in the coal industry. After investigating bookstores in Shanghai and Beijing, he decided to open a multi-functional and 24-hour bookstore with reading groups, lectures and film showings. [Photo/news.cn]

Wang Yuqi (L) introduces his 24-hour bookstore to visitors at Xiyue Bookshop in Jincheng, Shanxi province, Jan 10. The bookstore opened to the public at the end of 2015. Wang often launches reading activities through the internet and invites local cultural figures to interact with readers in the bookshop. Despite the influence of e-reading, his bookstore has become increasingly popular among readers for various reading activities. A bookshop is not only a place for purchasing books, but a club for people with the same hobbies to think, communicate and learn, according to Wang. [Photo/news.cn]
