Taiyuan Epilepsy Hospital and Shanxi Television recently initiated a charity event to help more children and teenagers with epilepsy from impoverished families across the province.

Students with epilepsy can have access to 24-hour dynamic electroencephalogram monitoring with student cards or ID cards, with a 40 percent discount on fees.

Patients between 5 and 18 years old can receive free medical consultation and treatment from experienced clinicians with their ID cards. A portion of these epilepsy patients who live under poverty line can also apply for a reduction of 5,000 yuan ($725.51) at most on treatment fees.

The event launched on Jan 1 will last until Feb 10. There have been 40 parents of children and teenagers with epilepsy that have applied for the relief as of Jan 3. More households are consulting organizers about application matters through the hotline.
