Pei Xingru, an 18-year-old woman from Datong in Shanxi province, won a wrestling world championship (not Olympic level) held in Budapest from Dec 10 to 11, becoming the first Chinese person to get a gold medal in such contests since 2013.

After competing with contestants from Sweden, Hungary and Japan, Pei defeated Allison Mackenzie Ragan from the United States by 6-0 in the final and came first in women's freestyle wrestling-60kg, in which 19 players took part.

The rising star once won a national youth wrestling championship in 2013 and then was trained in Shanxi provincial wrestling team. Later, she continued to improve her performance in various games, such as the Nanjing Youth Olympic Games in 2014.

"I'm excited and nervous for it's the first time I have joined in such an international championship and I hope that I can participate in the Olympics someday," said Pei.
