Shanxi is looking to boost its economy by developing local industries. Entrepreneurs and scholars attending the 11th Party Congress of Shanxi gave suggestions and opinions on the transformation of the energy, manufacturing and service industries.
Greening the energy industry
As a province abundant with coal resources, Shanxi has to improve the efficient utilization of coal and develop a comprehensive energy system to support the power industry.
For example, the "coal-electricity-electric vehicle" industrial chain has been promoted across the province. It not only expands the eco-friendly business of e-vehicles, but also helps deal with overcapacity in the coal industry.
"The coal industry is a technical-oriented economic sector. The equipment manufacturing based on coal utilization will turn the energy industry into a competitive field for economic growth," said Guo Shufen, dean of the Research Institute for Transformation of Resource-Reliant Economy at Shanxi University of Finance & Economics.
