Ballpen drawing becomes Internet hit

A group of nine ballpen drawings have been forwarded by Internet platforms including the official weibo of CCTV News and People's Daily. The drawings featuring Shanxi's sceneries like Qiao's Family Compound were created by Liu Kai, a man born in the 1990s from the city of Linfen, North China's Shanxi province.

The amazing and unforgettable blue in Liu's work received much attention from netizens shortly after he posted them on his weibo on Jan 26. They were then re-posted by the official weibo of People's Daily that afternoon and received 17,771 likes from netizens. They have since been forwarded by 11,027 weibo users.

CCTV News' official weibo also re-posted the works later that day, receiving significant re-posts and comments.

"The lines are amazing," commented one netizen. Others said they never imaged ballpen drawings could be so timeless.

Liu's weibo has received a lot of followers and comments. He echoed CCTV News' comment about ballpen drawing: "Ballpen ink can not be erased once it touches paper, so it's a big challenge for the artist. It asks not only professional skills, but also extraordinary patience."

He also described the attention and compliments from the netizens as "unexpected luck".

The ballpen drawing is a relatively new type of art. Liu said he will strive to promote it and demonstrate the beautiful sceneries of Shanxi through the drawing method.
