An assessment on the pre-feasibility of the Taijiao intercity railway (which links Taiyuan in Shanxi province and Jiaozuo in Henan province) was carried out in Beijing on Nov 27 by China Railways Corporation.

Since then, the construction of the Taijiao railway has stepped into a stage of site prospecting and feasibility research.

The Taijiao railway is a major transportation infrastructure project mapped out by Shanxi and Henan provinces during the 12th Five-Year Plan (2011-2015). Starting at Beige station in Taiyuan province, the railway runs a length of 319.83 kilometers through stations like West Taigu, Gucheng, West Wuxiang, West Xiangyuan, West Changzhi, East Gaoping, East Jincheng, Boai and Jiaozuo station.

The line covers 285.71 kilometers in Shanxi province and 34.12 kilometers in Henan province. The project is estimated to invest a total of 44.6 billion yuan ($7.27 billion). A speed of 250 kilometers per hour is designated for the railway.
