Shanxi's first coke-oven gas-to-natural gas project went into operation on July 10, marking a new era of coke-oven gas comprehensive utilization in Shanxi.

Shanxi Guoxin Zhengtai Energy Development Group, a joint venture between Shanxi Guoxin Energy Development Group (Guoxin Energy) and Guxian Zhengtai Gasification Co, takes advantage of the coke-oven gas resources and well-developed gas pipe network of its parent companies and will carry out the project.

China’s leading coke-oven gas purification and methanation technologies are a result of joint efforts of the Southwest Research & Design Institute of Chemical Industry and Guoxin Energy. The technologies remove benzene, naphthalene and sulfide from coke-oven gas and are being applied in the project. The project will cut coke-oven gas emissions by 240 million cubic meters per year; carbon dioxide by 217,500 tons; sulfur dioxide by 12,100 tons; and nitric oxide by 9,100 tons. It will produce 100 million cubic meters of natural gas annually, saving 1.45 million tons of coal.
