3) Unique technology for investigation and design of dams
a) Investigation and design of arch dams
With mature technology in design standards, optimization of dam configuration, safety analysis, evaluation of structures, analysis of dam body – abutment stability, safety monitoring, and feedback analysis for high concrete arch dams, POWERCHINA has built arch dams, such as Dongjiang and Xiaowan, and is currently working on the Xiluodu and Jinping-I dam projects, which represent the highest level of arch dam design in the world.
The Jinping-I double curvature arch dam on the Yalongjiang river, the highest arch dam in the world, has a reservoir storage area of 77.6*108 m3, an installed capacity of 3,600 MW, and a maximum height of 305 m. Xiluodu double curvature arch dam, one of the highest discharge power hydroelectric projects, has a reservoir storage area of 126.7*108 m3, an installed capacity of 12,600 MW, annual power generation of 64.06 TW•h, with a maximum height of 286m, a maximum flood discharge of 53,200 m3/s, and a maximum flood discharge power of 100 GW.

c) Faced rockfill dams
POWERCHINA is at an advanced global level in design philosophy, construction technique, and equipment for these dams and has prepared models for the relations of stress and strain on embankment materials and is in a lead position in equipment testing, structural design of dam body, construction of high concrete faced dams in deep overburdens, construction of dams in moderate and soft rocks, and crack reduction on dam faces.
