The Yunnan delegation to the first session of the 12th National People's Congress reviewed the government work report on March 6. During the review session, He Lianghui, the mayor of Lijiang, provided several proposals for the development of the tourism industry.
The first proposal encouraged the government to enact the Tourism Law, eliminating obstacles blocking development of the tourism industry, said He Lianghui. He also hoped that the paid leave system could be introduced as soon as possible to ensure time for travel.
He Lianghui also suggested that duty-free shops could be opened in tourism destinations such as Lijiang. He said that Lijiang could be built into a national demonstration area for cultural tourism and recreation in the following four ways:
First, accelerate the speed of road construction. Second, apply for preferential policies from the central government, such as visas upon arrival. Third, attract more foreign tourists by participating in overseas promotion programs of the National Tourism Administration. Fourth, propose to relevant government departments to establish Lijiang as an experimental area for national cultural and ecological conservation.
