Traveling to Yunnan in winter is a good way to escape the cold weather since the temperature here is comparatively pleasant. Once you are in Yunnan, you mustn't miss Lijiang, the most famous travel destination in the province.
Lijiang lies in northwest Yunnan, a distance of 527 kilometers to Kunming, the provincial capital city. More than 95 percent of the land in Lijiang is covered by mountains, and the average altitude is 2,400 meters. The Yulong Snow Mountains and Laojun Mountain are two major attractions in Lijiang. The highest peak on the Yulong Snow Mountains is 5,596 meters above sea level. There are also two major rivers running through Lijiang, the Jinsha River and Lancang River.
Lijiang has a population of 1.04 million and consists mostly of people from ethnic minority groups, such as Naxi, Bai, Yi and Miao. Ethnic minorities take up 58 percent of the whole population. Therefore, Lijiang is famous for its unique ethnic features and customs, and amazing cultural heritages, such as ancient Naxi music and the only living hieroglyphic in the world – the Dongba hieroglyphic. These unique features make Lijiang one of the most attractive places in China and the world.
